Last October Chicago Collections launched a pilot collaborative digital exhibit, The Sporting Life: Stories from Chicago Collections Archives and the Digital Exhibits Task Force wrote an accompanying manual for creating digital exhibits. This two-part workshop will guide participants through the manual and Chicago Collections exhibit proposal policies, provide an opportunity for generating exhibit ideas, and introduce Scalar, the digital exhibits software.

Part I: Workshop attendees will preview to the digital exhibits manual ahead of time and will have access to a form before and after the workshop to ask questions and leave comments. During the session members of the Digital Exhibits Task Force will guide participants through the manual and lead an interactive discussion based on participant feedback.

Part II: Smaller groups will brainstorm exhibit ideas and experiment with Scalar. Attendees will receive logins for Scalar and are encouraged to bring their own image files and metadata to construct exhibits. Sample images and metadata will also be provided.

Experience with digital exhibits software is not required.
