Chicago Collections Consortium is pleased to announce that the keynote speaker for this year's annual meeting will be Andrew Schachman, co-director of the Floating Museum. The Floating Museum is a new collaborative arts organization that generates impermanent, site-responsive museum spaces to activate areas of cultural potential throughout various Chicago neighborhoods and within local communities. The Floating Museum engages with many local artists, historians, and communities through shared projects to present an innovative approach to museum practices.

Their inaugural exhibit set sail last summer in 2017 on the Chicago River. The exhibition was entitled "River Assembly" and featured a monument to Jean Baptiste Du Sable, interdisciplinary performances, programs along the riverfront, and collaborative exhibition space called the 'wonder cabinet' that featured artistic activity from around Chicago. Many local artists and institutions assisted and contributed to the success of the exhibition including Miguel Aguilar, Maria Gasper, Hebru Brantley, Hyde Park Art Center, Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art, and the DuSable Museum of African American History.

Outside of his work with the Floating Museum, Schachman is a Studio Associate Professor in the College of Architecture at CCC member, Illinois Institute of Technology. His architecture work has received numerous awards including the Distinguished Building Award from the American Institute of Architects and the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Award for Architectural Excellence in Community Design.
